If there was any question as to whether the Kings would bring back interim coach Willie Desjardins, it appears to have been answered Sunday morning.
General manager Rob Blake sent out a statement that told the story.
“Today we thanked Willie Desjardins for his effort and dedication while serving as our interim head coach,” it read. “We wish Willie and his family nothing but the best going forward. The process for hiring our next head coach is underway and we look forward to conducting a thorough search for the right person to lead our team.”
Desjardins took over for John Stevens after Stevens was fired Nov. 4 after the Kings started 4-8-1. The Kings went 27-34-8 under Desjardins as they finished the season 31-42-9 and out of the playoffs for the third time in five seasons.
Desjardins, 62, previously was head coach at Vancouver for three seasons from 2014-17 and had a record of 109-110-27 with the Canucks.
The Kings finished their season Saturday with a 5-2 victory over Vegas at Staples Center.
